This is a delicious minced beef and potato pie recipe at only 69p per slice. A traditional meat pie which is simple to make. I’ll be making the shortcrust pastry with butter and lard to make a delicious case for the pie. And then the simple minced beef and potato filling. Here is a list of the ingredients and the method.

Pastry

260g / 9.2 oz Plain Flour. 0.14

65g / 2.3oz Unsalted Butter 0.50

65g / 2.3oz Lard 0.13

Pinch of Salt 0.00

3 Tbsp cold water 0.00

Filling.

400g / 14oz Minced Beef 4.15

300g / 10.5oz Potato 0.36

1 Onion 0.09

1 Stock 0.12

1 tsp Black pepper 0.04

2 tsp corn flour 0.04

Rub the butter and lard into the flour until it is a fine breadcrumb. Then add a little cold water until the pastry comes together. Cover it in cling film and put in the fridge for about 30mins

Chop the onion and lightly fry to soften. Then add the beef and continue to fry until browned. Add the beef stock cube and enough water to cover the mixture. Add a little black pepper and allow to cook on the hob for about 30 mins.

Peel and chop the potatoes into small cubes. Add the potatoes to the beef and onion and cook until the potatoes are softened.

If the filling is too runny add a little cornflour dissolved in cold water and thicken up the filling until it separates when a spoon is pulled through it.

Allow the filling to cool.

Roll out the pastry into two circles large enough to cover the plate.

Rub some lard ove
